Dr Gabriella Nel becomes youngest South African and medical doctor to summit Everest



Dr Gabriella Nel, a 25-year-old from Johannesburg, just lately turned the youngest South African to summit Mount Everest and the youngest medical physician to take action! Dr Nel’s former faculty, St Andrew’s College For Women, shared the announcement in a Facebook post on Friday, writing:

‘Effectively executed to Previous Woman, Gabriella Nel (2016), who turned the youngest South African and youngest medical physician on this planet to summit Everest. Gabriella reached the 8 848m peak at 09:35 on 17 Might, 9 days after her twenty fifth birthday. What an unbelievable achievement!’

The college mentions that former scholar Cathy O’Dowd, who summited Everest from each the south and north sides, can be proud.

Dr Nel accomplished her problem with the journey firm Makalu Journey and Sherpas, Pherma and Mohan. In a video posted by Makalu Journey, she says ‘it was an unbelievable expertise’, regardless of the ‘hiccups’ she encountered throughout her ascent.

Dr Nel suffered frostbite on her palms however was promptly rescued from Base Camp 3 and is now recovering at house after her record-breaking summit.

‘I wish to thank Sherpa Mohan and the Makalu Journey group for organising an extended line rescue from Base Camp 3, which is extraordinarily troublesome. I imagine the corporate saved my life. Hopefully, I’ll be again.’
